22nd IEEE INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON SIGNAL PROCESSING ADVANCES IN
It is our pleasure to welcome to all of you to the 22nd IEEE International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC). SPAWC, the flagship workshop of the Signal Processing for Wireless Communications and Networking Technical Committee (SPCOM‐TC) of the IEEE Signal Processing Society, aims to bring together researchers in signal processing, wireless communications, information theory, and optimization from both academia and industry.
SPAWC 2021 will be a fully-virtual workshop.
A walk into How Marconi Gave Us the Wireless World
On Sept. 8, 1902, Guglielmo Marconi was looking at the Tuscan coast from the cruiser “Carlo Alberto” . While passing in front of Leghorn, Marconi expressed his intention to build a powerful intercontinental station. The selected site was Coltano, a rural area between Lucca and Leghorn. The Coltano station was inaugurated by Marconi himself in 1911 with transmissions to Clifden (Ireland) and Glace Bay (Canada). SPAWC 2021 will be a great opportunity to learn more about this once worldwide renowned, but now completely forgotten, radio station.

Lucca – The Walled City
Lucca is one of the cities most loved all of Tuscany, Italy. Throughout the years, this medieval city has maintained the characteristics of the small capital it has been almost up to the unification of Italy (1815 – 1871). The streets and piazzas of the historic center, the churches and buildings, and its overall urban layout show how smooth and uninterrupted its development has been over the centuries, providing an ideal setting for a medium-size workshop as SPAWC. Everyone says that when they travel, they want to see a “real, non-touristy” side. Then, come to Lucca!
The historic city is surrounded by fortifications, designed by Leonardo Da Vinci. Built in the 16th and 17th century, the walls are so broad that there is a road that loops around the top (about 4km), making it a comfortable walk and nice way to see more of the city.
